History of Tattershall Village Hall
In December 1950, 4 members of the local community bought a field for £250 and set it up as a Charitable Trust. The field had been owned by Joseph Walter of Woodhall Spa, who died in 1947. The community raised money by planting cash crops for three years and then bought a wooden building, formerly a bicycle shop, which was re-erected in the field and opened as ‘Tattershall Town Hall’ on 15th May 1954. Over the years there have been many additions and renovations; an external brick toilet block was added, later the wooden walls were replaced with brick and the toilets were incorporated into the structure with internal access! Kitchen facilities were added and, with a grant from Lincolnshire County Council, an extension to increase seating along one side of the hall was added in 1981. Improvements continued with the addition of a porch, funded by the Tattershall with Thorpe Friendly Committee; the addition of external water and sewerage facilities for use by visitors and caravans, and more recently gas central heating.
The latest improvements, which include the addition of a second meeting room and refurbishment of the kitchen, at a cost of about £150,000, were funded with grants from the Lottery Community Fund, WREN, Lloyds TSB, Lincolnshire County Council, East Lindsey District Council, Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council and the support of the local community who have given generously at all our fundraising events.
Following completion of the extension, Fundraising continued so that we were able to purchase new tables and chairs, a modular stage and increase the Toilet facilities to meet the needs of this ever-growing community.
The two rooms are used every weekday by a variety of clubs and organisations.
Caravan Clubs are allowed to book the hall & field for some weekends, the majority of weekends are reserved for Community use for Wedding receptions, Birthday Parties and Fundraisers.
