The Manning Trophy shall be awarded annually to the individual or organisation that in the opinion of the judges has made a significant contribution to the community worthy of a formal recognition. Any individual or organisation residing or operating within the boundary of Tattershall with Thorpe Parish should be eligible for nomination for the award.
A meeting of the Public Lighting and Amenities Committee was held at 7pm on 15th May 2000 at 25 Fortescue Close, Tattershall to discuss the selection procedure for awarding the Manning Trophy. After careful consideration, the following method of selection was decided to be both fair and unbiased and will commence from the year 2001.
The Principle
The Manning Trophy shall be awarded annually to the individual or organisation that in the opinion of the judges has made a significant contribution to the community worthy of formal recognition.
Any individual or organisation residing or operating within the boundary of Tattershall with Thorpe Parish should be eligible for nomination for the award.
The Method
Any member of the Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council should in the first instance make nominations. Nominations should be made anonymously, in writing, giving the reasons and passe to the Parish Clerk.
If there is more than one nominee the Public Lighting and Amenities Committee, who are the judges, will meet to consider all the nominees and will select the winner by means of a secret ballot. In the event of a tie, the Chairman of the Parish Council will have the discretion to select the winner from a short list.
The meeting to decide the winner will be informal, no member of the public or press shall be present and the business discussed is not to be debated orr aired outside the meeting.
The Timetable
At the February Parish Council meeting, members will be asked to consider if they have any nomination in mind ad to forward them to the Parish Clerk as described above.
At the March Parish Council meeting, the date for the meeting of the Public Lighting and Amenities Committee will be set and members will have until that date to make any further nominations.
At the April Parish Council meeting, the name of the winner will be passed to the members, with the usual restriction that the name should not be revealed to the public until the Parish Clerk has had sufficient time to contact the winner and inform the press.
The presentation of the Manning Trophy to the winner will be made at the Annual Parish Meeting.
