5. Chairman s report Cllr Chris Sivill:
Good evening everyone,
I d like to start by welcoming you all here tonight and thanking you for taking the time to attend.
For those who may not be familiar, the Parish Council plays an important role in supporting our local community. This includes things like arranging grass cutting, maintaining parish-owned bins and seats around the village, and giving residents a voice on planning matters that affect our area. Parish Council meetings also offer local residents a place to come along and raise concerns or issues that matter to them.
Over the last year, Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council has been pleased to support a number of local initiatives.
We were proud to assist Jean Newholm s Poppy Team by helping to secure the relevant permissions, as well as providing the hessian backing, and funding the Royal British Legion Tommy silhouette that formed part of the display at the Butter Cross in the marketplace. It was a very fitting tribute and one that was appreciated by many.
We also supported the Christmas Market held last November by arranging free use of the car park to the rear of the Co-op. In addition, the Parish Council funded the horse and carriage rides between the Village Hall, Tattershall Castle and the church, helping to create lasting memories for those who attended.
The same day, we had a local resident dressed as Santa handing out sweets, and the switching on of the marketplace Christmas tree lights, accompanied by carols sung by a local dance group. It was a fantastic community occasion and enjoyed by many.
We also installed a couple of new information boards in the marketplace, near the benches in the centre of the village green. These display the locations of buildings of interest within the village and help visitors and residents learn more about the area.
The Parish Councillors also took part in selecting their favourite gardens for our annual Best Kept Garden competition, and we have invited an independent judge to choose the overall winners. It s always great to see the pride residents take in their gardens and the contribution this makes to the appearance of the village.
We also try to encourage a bit of fun in the community. Last Christmas, we invited local residents to decorate their homes and gardens. It was fantastic to see over 250 properties across Tattershall and Tattershall Thorpe taking part. A local judge selected the best three displays, who were presented with certificates and small gifts. It really helped to bring some festive spirit to the village.
I d also like to recognise the many local charities and organisations that continue to support our community throughout the year your work makes a real difference. In particular, I would like to mention the Coningsby and Tattershall Lions, who organise the annual beer festival held here at the Village Hall each summer, which is always a well-supported and enjoyable event.
We are fortunate to have the Tattershall Village Hall, where we are gathered this evening. As I m also the Chairman of the Village Hall Committee, I would like to personally thank all committee members. They give a huge amount of their time and effort throughout the year to keep this facility running, organising events and ensuring it remains at the heart of our community.
I would also like to mention the Coningsby and Tattershall Wombles, who do an amazing job helping to keep the village clean and tidy. They are always willing to lend a hand, even helping us with things like decorating Christmas trees, and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Today I noticed the work on the new crossing outside barns Wallace academy has started. It s a much needed crossing that has been made possible from
The help and support that Tom Ashton and Sean Matthew s has given to help us make it happen.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the church and the castle. We had the pleasure of working with Sheila and David, along with the other church and the castle staff and volunteers, when planning the Christmas Market. Their support and collaboration played a big part in making the event such a success.
Thank you all once again for your continued support of our community.
The meeting closed at 7:56pm
